As a Black small business owner, Eden Cafe is more than just a place to grab a cup of coffee and relax; it's my platform to strengthen the Black community in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It's our mission to create a safe, warm, and welcoming space for all.
With Black History Month in full swing, I'm reflecting on how privileged and grateful I am to have had the opportunity to build Eden Cafe. Growing up, I never imagined myself to be a business owner — a pioneering entrepreneur. Yet here I stand today, running a successful business and making a positive impact on my local community.
At Eden Cafe, I strive to create a space that recognizes Black excellence, not just during Black History Month, but whenever we need it most. Every single day, I'm proud to see my cafe buzzing with people from all different walks of life — enjoying each other's company and learning from each other.
I owe so much gratitude to all the Black entrepreneurs who have come before me and paved the way. Who have made it possible for me to take this leap, and build a business that celebrates Black history and culture. I hope to continue to honor this legacy and continue to use my business to empower, educate and uplift the Black community.
